Political Relations

Trade and Economic Relations
All Bengalian countries have positive trade relations among each other, and the recently implemented the BFTA in August 2013, envisages the first step towards the transition to a Bengalian Free Trade Area (BFTA) leading subsequently towards a Customs Union, Common Market and Economic Union. A Committee of Experts (COE) was set up to draft a comprehensive treaty framework for creating a free trade area within the region, taking into consideration the asymmetries in development within the region and bearing in mind the need to fix realistic and achievable targets. The BFTA Agreement was signed on 6 January 2014 during COPN Summit held in Phunkistan. Under this agreement, BFTA members will bring their duties down to 20% by 2016.
